Gary Lohmann & Rick Hair become an extension of The Fabulous Stingrays under the new band name of The Sound Company. In July of 1969 Kenny
Vaughn jams with Gary and Rick and is subsequently asked to replace drummer Steve
York due to a health condition Steve had. In September Kenny asks bass player Randy
Butler to join and replace Dave Watson. Shortly after that the band brought in Denny
Shelton to be the lead singer/ front man. This completed the newly formed line up of
Lohmann (Guitar, vocals) Butler (Bass guitar, vocals ) Hair ( Keyboards, vocals )
Vaughn ( Drums ),
Shelton ( Lead Singer ).

The band let Denny Shelton go in January 1970 which created the final four man line up of Gary, Rick, Randy and Kenny. The guys were all members of the Joplin
Musicians Union Local 620 and booked all of their gigs with completed union contracts.
Gary handled all of the bookings and communications with our Springfield, Mo. Mid- American booking agency. Jerry McConnell was recruited to be The Sound Company light man and roadie. The band (except Kenny) traveled to Little Rock, Ark. to see Three Dog Night at Barton Coliseum on September 6, 1970. They arrived to the venue hours
early and parked by the stage loading dock. TDN Lighting Director (Dennis Albro) asked
the guys to help the road crew set up and that started a friendship between Jerry and
our band. They also became friends with “Tiny” who was a SHOWCO Road Manager.
Both Dennis and Tiny helped Sound Company get backstage at several big concerts by Three Dog Night and other big bands at shows in Tulsa, St. Louis and Dallas.
